Electrical Engineer, Compute Hardware

The Hardware Engineering team at Waymo is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.
In this role, you’ll:
- Architect, design, and build PCBAs (schematic capture, board layout)
- Design and execute DV plans for boards and systems
- Debug and triage failed units from the field
- Own in board and system bring-up
- Create and modify testing software
At a minimum, we’d like you to have:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years PCB design experience - schematic capture, board layout,, manufacturing, test/debug
- Delivered at least one project from prototype phase into mass production
- Experience with hardware validation cycles, debug and measurement methods
- Experience with lab bring-up, debug of complex electronic systems, and manufacturing testing processes
- Familiarity with:
- Computer architecture and networking
- Digital communication buses, such as CAN, I2C, SPI, MIPI, DDR, PCIe
It’s preferred if you have:
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years PCB design experience
- Experience designing for automotive environments
- Familiarity with Cadence PCB CAD tools such as Cadence DE-HDL
- Background designing highly complex boards, such as high-performance servers or high-speed networking hardware
- Excellent technical communication skills
- Familiarity with Python, C++, Verilog and Linux environments
