Waymo is the self-driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around. Building on software and sensor technology developed at Google, Waymo is now launching the world’s first fully self-driving transportation service that will take members of the public from A to B at the touch of a button.

Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's self-driving systems, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.

Waymo's Reliability team is looking for hands on interns to support  reliability testing at the component and subsystem level. The Reliability team is responsible for validating the most reliable self-driving car hardware. You would play a key role in helping us test our next generation hardware by and exposing designs to harsh environments. You are bringing a passion for execution, a hands on attitude and a thirst to learn the ins and outs of development of complex electromechanical systems.

In this internship, you’ll:

  • Set up reliability tests, including handling chamber and other test equipment infrastructure
  • Prepare testing fixtures, test harnesses and set up the necessary monitoring to conduct reliability tests
  • Monitor units under test and report on test progress
  • Assist with the testing schedule to assure smooth execution of tests for the modules of your responsibility
  • Work with the reliability and engineering teams to identify design weaknesses, communicate test failures and assist in finding innovative solutions

At a minimum we’d like you to have:

  • BS, MS or PhD candidate in an engineering, science or related discipline

It’s preferred if you have:

  • Prior internship/experience in a high tech or automotive company
  • Knowledge of how to operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
