Waymo is the self-driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around. Building on software and sensor technology developed at Google, Waymo is now launching the world’s first fully self-driving transportation service that will take members of the public from A to B at the touch of a button.

 

Operations keeps Waymo’s business rolling. We are the vehicle operators, service technicians and customer support specialists who test and maintain our self-driving vehicles and bring help and guidance to our passengers and customers. The Operations team is the heart of Waymo’s testing operations and ride hailing service, handling every detail to make sure that each ride is the ultimate user experience.

In this management role, you'll:

  • Run driving operations efficiently at PHX depots to deliver against testing and commercial requirements (miles driven, vehicle utilisation)

    • Lead, manage and develop a large team comprised of both full time employees and indirect workforce (temp/vendors/contractors)

    • Ensure effective deployment of company processes and policies to achieve safe and efficient operations

    • Develop plan to strategically scale operations within Phoenix market (vehicles, labour) accounting for supply/demand while balancing requirements for new AV technology deployment

    • Be the enabler for hiring the best talent, growing/retaining them in the organization

    • Work with other operational leads to influence and continually improve operational processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness

  • Be the onsite leader for all cross-functional teams working within Phoenix depots (e.g. tech ops, facilities, community outreach, user experience)

    • Ensure timely information cascade to the team and act as the primary information source for the team, maintaining compliance, consistency, and taking corrective action when needed

    • Serve as main leadership point of contact for all local Phoenix Market engagements understanding and representing local employees when there are visiting business partners, executives or members of press

    • Champion in-market initiatives including growth of commercial service

 

At a minimum, we'd like you to have:

  • Strong people management experience across a large organization with multiple levels of employees and skill sets. Experience working with hourly employees, temps and vendors.

  • 10 years+  experience working in, owning or partnering with day-to-day business operations

  • Outstanding track record in planning and managing at both the strategic and operational level

  • Organized, detail-oriented, strategically focused and ability to multitask in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

  • Must be adaptable to a changing environment and able to consistently achieve goals despite stress and ambiguity  

  • Ability to lead large teams directly and influence cross functional teams



We'd like you to have:

  • Ability to dive deep into data and provide thought-provoking, workable business solutions

  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels including executive leadership team peers, managers and staff

  • Ability to proactively identify problems and issues across workflows then create programs and processes to solve them

  • Experience operating in a matrix organization
