Rider Experience Training Manager

Waymo is a self-driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around. Building on software and sensor technology developed at Google, Waymo is now launching the world’s first fully self-driving transportation service that will take members of the public from A to B at the touch of a button.

Operations keeps Waymo’s business rolling. We are the vehicle operators, service technicians and customer support specialists who test and maintain our self-driving vehicles and bring help and guidance to our passengers and customers. The Operations team is the heart of Waymo’s testing operations and ride hailing service, handling every detail to make sure that each ride is the ultimate user experience.


In this role, you'll:

  • Lead the Technical Training Development strategy for one department by engaging with stakeholders to drive an integrated training strategy for building technical skills and capability at all levels

  • Independently identify and communicate training projects across the team

  • Present new training requests to leadership with prioritization recommendations, estimated timelines, and impacts or connections to other in progress training programs

  • Generate monthly report on training metrics, and present plans to continuously improve training effectiveness, and engagement

  • Collaborate with training implementation to determine the best delivery methods that meet the design and business needs

  • Review the final products developed by your team of Senior Instructional Designers and Instructional Designers Need Analysis, Program Design and Development, Resource Planning, Evaluation

  • Manage Temporary staff of up to 8 instructional designers and senior instructional designer


At a minimum, we'd like you to have:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience

  • At least 5 years of L&D, Technical Training, or other related experience and at least 3 years of Project Management experience with large, complex projects and cross-functional stakeholders

  • Experience working with fast-paced cutting edge technologies

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing learning strategies, initiatives, and technical programs for people at all levels

  • Strong knowledge and design skills in change management, organizational design, systems thinking, strategic communications, consultative skills, team dynamics, and coaching

  • Strong strategic skills with the ability to move from strategic to tactical
