People Programs Manager
Mountain View, California, United States

Waymo is the self-driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around. Building on software and sensor technology developed at Google, Waymo is now launching the world’s first fully self-driving transportation service that will take members of the public from A to B at the touch of a button.

Waymo’s People team recruits and supports the world’s best talent (including, we hope, you). Our HR business partners, program managers, staffers, and compensation specialists help our employees attain their full potential in a healthy, considerate and supportive environment. We take seriously our role as champions of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (EID) and stewards of the unique Waymo culture.

The Waymo People team is looking for a People Programs Manager to be the driving force behind Waymo’s major, cyclical employee programs in partnership with our Chief People Officer and HRBP teams. Serving as a key member of the Staffing and People Operations leadership team, the People Programs Manager will be empowered to create and deliver People Operations processes and programs that operationalize our focus on individual and team performance, reinforce our values-based culture and support the organization as it grows. In this role you’ll apply your expertise in HR and related employee programs, such as performance management, and culture topics such as employee engagement. This domain knowledge will be complemented by strong program design and execution skills.    This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in a start-up environment that embraces innovative thinking. This person will need to be able to execute quickly and thrive in an ambiguous, ever-changing environment, as well as quickly build capabilities in areas where clients need support.  Additionally, they will build strong networks to influence others without authority. The role will appeal to someone who constantly looks to optimize and revise processes based on learnings, who is able to look objectively at a situation and connect the dots to guide others through options and considerations, and who derives satisfaction by positively impacting the employee experience in a manner that ultimately helps achieve business goals.      In this role you'll:
  • Own strategic people program design and delivery including the creation of program roadmaps, project documentation, process maps, and tracking reports

  • Develop strong relationships with senior HRBPs and stakeholders; understand their business needs, recommend solutions and be a catalyst for implementing meaningful improvements

  • Exercise thought leadership to enhance, transform, create or deprecate practices and processes, with the key objective of supporting best-in-class people programs at Waymo

  • Structure and execute analyses required to develop recommendations and manage ad-hoc teams of other People Ops team members to help drive the work

  • Distill and cascade core tenets of our strategy to senior leaders, HRBPs, and other internal stakeholders, as well as confidently present concepts and progress to these audiences

  • Help select and implement enabling technology solutions

At a minimum, we would like you to have:
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience

  • 6+ years of work experience in Consulting, HR or Business Operations

  • Proven program management skills, from design through to execution of complex, large-scale initiatives

It is preferred if you have:
  • Strong consulting skills -- ability to look at problems from multiple angles, be a thought leader  and a systems thinker

  • Experience managing large complex projects with multiple players across cross-functional teams with meticulous attention to detail

  • Excellent judgment on sensitive, complex, and cross-functional issues, fostering collaboration between leaders, sub-teams, the larger org and related functions

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy

At Waymo, we don’t just accept difference - we celebrate it, we support it, and we thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, our products and our community.
