Waymo's Supply Chain and Manufacturing teams are making the technology of the future a reality. We handle all production processes and supplier development strategies: from contracts and purchasing, to designs for improved manufacturing, through quality control and delivery. We collaborate actively with Waymo engineering teams as well as external suppliers and partners to make sure everything is built to spec and delivered on time to meet the rising demands of our business.
In this role you'll:
- Manage and lead a team of SQE on Quality & Metrology
- Act as the primary point of contact for component quality at Waymo
- Lead cross-functional technical reviews to obtain consensus on manufacturing inspection methods, gauge and fixture designs during NPI and beyond
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing and process engineering teams to optimize component design that is suitable for mass production
- Provide on-site support during manufacturing bring-up, equipment qualification and measurement correlation between manufacturing sites (contract manufacturer sites)
- Develop, implement and audit component quality control and test plans
- Manage and resolve quality issues, identify root cause and implement effective and sustainable countermeasures
- Qualify new metrology equipment and complete measurement system analysis to ensure optimal performance and capability
At a minimum, we'd like you to have:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
- 10+ years of relevant work experience in mechanical design, manufacturing and/or quality assurance
- Comprehensive knowledge of high/low volume manufacturing processes for mechanical and/or optical components including forging, stamping, CNC, die-casting, injection molding, anodizing, painting, plating, polishing and welding processes etc.
- Detailed knowledge of GD&T, SPC and quality management system
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%~50% of the time
It's preferred if you have:
- Advanced knowledge of quality standards ISO9001, IATF16949 and ISO26262 is a plus
- ASQ Certification is a plus
- Hands-on experience developing and validating automated inspection equipment and mechanical gauges. Experience with CMM & OMM hardware/software is a plus
