Waymo's Supply Chain and Manufacturing teams are making the technology of the future a reality. We handle all production processes and supplier development strategies: from contracts and purchasing, to designs for improved manufacturing, through quality control and delivery. We collaborate actively with Waymo engineering teams as well as external suppliers and partners to make sure everything is built to spec and delivered on time to meet the rising demands of our business.

The electrical process integration engineer is responsible for the design, planning, and execution of the electrical and software processes in the vehicle manufacturing environment, including vehicle end of line test design and vehicle bring-up. 

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of electrical and software systems. They should be comfortable designing electrical processes and software driven diagnostic testing for manufacturing operations. They will work closely with other engineers and technicians in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This position will be dynamic but expected daily responsibilities may include, troubleshooting early life autonomous vehicles, authoring bug fixes for diagnostic software, planning vehicle bring-up processes, and engaging in strategic discussion for future manufacturing operations.

In this role you'll:

  • Develop innovative solutions to test functionality of autonomous vehicles
  • Directly support software development for diagnostics, integration, and automated testing
  • Design and optimize processes to scale to hundreds of vehicles per day
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complicated electrical and software issues on autonomous vehicles
  • Lead the bring-up & calibration of autonomous vehicles
  • This role may also require leading and managing a small team in the future

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems and components (Power distribution, networks, harnessing) and electrical diagnostic tools (DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscope, logic analyzers, CAN diagnostics)
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems design and debugging methodologies (embedded firmware, RTOS, JTAG, SWD) and software diagnostic tools (command line interfaces, interpreting log files)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software development (Python, C++)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills 
  • Practice giving clear verbal communication and instructions
  • Experience with guiding other team members on complex projects
  • Strong project management skills
  • Willing and able to travel for medium durations regularly 

It’s preferred if you have:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical troubleshooting and repair
  • Prior team leading and team management experience
  • Experience with autonomous or electric vehicles
  • Experience with prototype or early development engineering projects
  • Experience with scaling manufacturing operations

 

The expected base salary range for this full-time position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.  Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
