Vegas is known for its fun and games, but one thing you shouldn’t gamble on is road safety. That’s why Waymo is returning to Las Vegas to bring the safety, reliability and magic of our autonomous ride-hailing service to residents and visitors alike beginning next summer.
We’ve regularly visited Las Vegas over the years and found the Waymo Driver easily adapts to the city. Beyond the iconic Strip, Las Vegas pulses with energy from its rapidly growing community where diversity and innovation intersect. While Las Vegas is unique, its driving dynamics are familiar—similar to cities where we already operate. This familiarity positions us well to help serve Las Vegas’s 40+ million annual visitors. We’re already seeing tourists in cities we serve embrace autonomous rides as both a convenient way to get around and a novel experience in itself, helping them discover destinations they wouldn’t have visited without Waymo.
Waymo is focused on offering residents a reliable way to get to work, handle daily errands, and enjoy their city, while also improving road safety. Nevada is the sixth most dangerous state to drive, with Las Vegas contributing 43% of the state’s collisions yearly. With Waymo being 5x safer than human drivers, we can help address these troubling trends. And we’ll of course be serving the Strip and we’re working to eventually serve the airport.
“Las Vegas has a proud, proven history of setting global standards for unforgettable experiences and forward-thinking innovation,” said Mayor Shelley Berkely. “The introduction of Waymo and its autonomous driving technology is not a science experiment, but rather a proven, safe, new alternative designed to help our residents and the millions of visitors who come to our city get around—from the Strip and beyond. We are committed to ensuring this technology is adopted responsibly, and securing Las Vegas’s place as a leader in the future of urban mobility.”
