Lori Argumedo enjoys using Waymo

Former Boxer Champions Waymo in Campaign to Stop Street Racing

Lori Aguimendo  – like many people – never considered the realities of street racing until it affected her own family. Her niece Bethany, a young mom who was studying to be a nurse, was a victim of reckless driving the night before Mother’s Day.

“Two young men decided to race down this residential street, and they hit Bethany on the side of her vehicle at 100 miles per hour,” Lori said.

Within a week, she had joined Street Racing Kills (SRK), a Los Angeles nonprofit which educates young drivers about safe driving, and now serves as its Outreach and Community Relations Director.

“We’re passionate about creating awareness in regards to the dangers of street racing and reckless driving to our communities and our teens,” Lori said.

Lori brings the same relentless determination to road safety that, before turning to advocacy, she honed in the boxing ring over 17 years competing as a boxer ranked third in the nation.

“My niece Bethany loved that about me,” Lori shared. “She was an athlete like myself.”

Lori said Waymo’s autonomous driving technology, which is designed to drive safely and obey traffic laws like speed limits, can help drive a shared road safety mission.

“I got in that Waymo vehicle and I felt 100 percent safe,” Lori shared, recalling her first Waymo ride. “You can just sit in this vehicle comfortably knowing that you're going to get from destination A to B safely.”

Waymo is also designed to drive cautiously, with the safety of all road users in mind.

“Waymo is really the way of the future,” Lori said. “It is a way of saving lives.”
