  • Safe, Routine, Ready: Autonomous driving in five new cities

Waymo is introducing fully autonomous driving in five new cities: Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando. Operations start today in Miami, and will begin in the remaining four cities over the coming weeks, ahead of opening our doors to riders next year. While going rider-only was once considered a technical feat, it’s become routine for Waymo. We’ve built a generalizable Driver, powered by Waymo’s demonstrably safe AI, and an operational playbook to reliably achieve this milestone, and our safety- and community-first approach, enables us to bring it to riders faster than ever.

  • A white, Waymo I-PACE with a drum driving down Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! Waymo is bringing its fully autonomous ride-hailing service to New Orleans.

We visited New Orleans last year, and the Waymo Driver found the Big Easy, easy to navigate. From the large crowds in the French Quarter to navigating the city’s storied streets, our Driver safely navigated the complexity of the city.

As we continue to expand our service, we are focused on integrating seamlessly with the community and alongside existing transportation options. Our technology is designed to improve mobility and road safety, directly aligning with New Orleans’ Safe Streets for All initiative. In fact, data shows the Waymo Driver is involved in 5x fewer crashes with injuries than a human driver.

“The future of transportation is here and it’s rolling into Louisiana,” said Josh Fleig, Chief Innovation Officer at Louisiana Economic Development. “Waymo’s work reflects the kind of forward-thinking investment that positions Louisiana at the center of innovation in mobility, safety, and technology.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Waymo to New Orleans and bring cutting-edge, autonomous transportation to our community,” shared Pamela Allen, Executive Director of the Louisiana Center for the Blind and President of the National Federation of the Blind of Louisiana. For blind and low vision individuals, this represents meaningful progress toward greater freedom, independent travel, and full participation. We are truly grateful for Waymo’s partnership and look forward to building a more accessible future together. The possibilities are endless!”

When we do launch, we aim to offer residents and the city’s millions of visitors alike a safe, reliable, and magical way to get around directly via the Waymo app. Whether you’re meeting friends in Mid-City, heading to the CBD for a late shift, or just exploring the city’s unique charm, Waymo is looking forward to making local travel easier for everyone in New Orleans.

We’re lacing up our skates and laying the early groundwork for our fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Minneapolis! Starting today, you’ll see us begin driving in the city with a mixed fleet of our Jaguar I-PACE and Zeekr RT vehicles.

To prepare for Minneapolis’ winter weather, we’ve made great strides in our efforts to operate in heavier snow – including testing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, California’s Sierra Nevada, and Upstate New York. We continue to validate our 6th-generation Waymo Driver, which leverages Waymo’s AI and robust cleaning mechanisms to sustain fully autonomous operations in snow and ice. Sleet or shine, our technology is making roads safer where we operate, and we look forward to offering the Minneapolis community a safe and accessible transportation option.

  • A white Waymo SUV in front of the Las Vegas skyline.

Vegas is known for its fun and games, but one thing you shouldn’t gamble on is road safety. That’s why Waymo is returning to Las Vegas to bring the safety, reliability and magic of our autonomous ride-hailing service to residents and visitors alike beginning next summer.

We’ve regularly visited Las Vegas over the years and found the Waymo Driver easily adapts to the city. Beyond the iconic Strip, Las Vegas pulses with energy from its rapidly growing community where diversity and innovation intersect. While Las Vegas is unique, its driving dynamics are familiar—similar to cities where we already operate. This familiarity positions us well to help serve Las Vegas’s 40+ million annual visitors. We’re already seeing tourists in cities we serve embrace autonomous rides as both a convenient way to get around and a novel experience in itself, helping them discover destinations they wouldn’t have visited without Waymo.

Waymo is focused on offering residents a reliable way to get to work, handle daily errands, and enjoy their city, while also improving road safety. Nevada is the sixth most dangerous state to drive, with Las Vegas contributing 43% of the state’s collisions yearly. With Waymo being 5x safer than human drivers, we can help address these troubling trends. And we’ll of course be serving the Strip and we’re working to eventually serve the airport.

“Las Vegas has a proud, proven history of setting global standards for unforgettable experiences and forward-thinking innovation,” said Mayor Shelley Berkely. “The introduction of Waymo and its autonomous driving technology is not a science experiment, but rather a proven, safe, new alternative designed to help our residents and the millions of visitors who come to our city get around—from the Strip and beyond. We are committed to ensuring this technology is adopted responsibly, and securing Las Vegas’s place as a leader in the future of urban mobility.”

  • A white Waymo SUV in front of the Detroit Skyline

Waymo is headed to Motown! Detroit is the city that put the world on wheels, and we’re excited to keep those wheels turning with our fully autonomous ride-hailing service. You’ll soon see us around as we familiarize ourselves with the city’s historic streets, ahead of serving riders.

We’re proud of our roots in Metro Detroit, including in Novi, where we’ve had an engineering team for many years. We’ve also regularly tested in Detroit during winter weather to develop our capabilities in snow and ice. We’ve made great strides in our efforts to operate in heavier snow – including testing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula – and look forward to the 6th-generation Waymo Driver navigating Detroit streets this winter.

  • Waymo's expanded Austin service area.

North to South, we’re covering more ground in Austin starting today. Safe and fully autonomous Waymo rides, only on Uber. See you on the road, ATX.

100 million real world, fully autonomous miles driven on public roads. That’s more than 200 trips to the Moon and back. Thank you riders.

We’re elevating the Waymo experience in the Mile High City as we arrive in Denver this fall to lay the groundwork for a fully autonomous service in the future.

We’ll arrive with a mixed fleet of Jaguar I-PACE with the 5th-generation Waymo Driver and Zeekr RT vehicles equipped with our 6th-generation Waymo Driver. Our next-generation system is informed by years of winter weather experience across Michigan, upstate New York, and the Sierra Nevada and engineered to autonomously sustain operations in harsher climates.

As we put down roots in the city, we’re coordinating closely with city and state officials and look forward to building strong partnerships with the communities that make Denver a beloved home and world-class destination to millions.
“I’m excited to help Coloradans get where we want to go faster, safer, with additional transportation options.” said Colorado Governor Polis. “Our state is driven by innovation, and the arrival of Waymo’s autonomous vehicle technology in Denver is a step forward. We welcome Waymo to Colorado.”

“Whether they need a ride to work, school, the farmer’s market, or they’re heading out for a night on the town, Waymo is a great way for Denverites to get where they’re going safely,” said Mayor Mike Johnston. “Waymo’s innovative, climate-friendly technology will not only make our streets safer but cleaner, and I can’t wait for my first ride.”

We’re heading North – the Pacific Northwest to be exact! We’re excited to open our doors to the broader Seattle metropolitan area and offer a new way to get around. Washington State, and many of its municipalities, have been early leaders in autonomous vehicle (AV) testing as they develop their framework for AV operations.

We’ve spent years getting to know the area —from communities around the Lake to its notoriously wet weather. This experience has been vital in helping us serve riders rain or shine in cities across the country. We’re eager to bring that same safe, accessible, and sustainable service to you.

As we work to create a path forward for autonomous operations, we’re deepening our relationships with the local community.

“The Epilepsy Foundation Washington applauds Waymo’s expansion to Seattle. Safe, reliable transportation is one of the greatest challenges for people with epilepsy,” said Kevin Koppes, Executive Director, Epilepsy Foundation Washington. “For many, the inability to drive limits independence, access to employment, and participation in other activities. Waymo’s commitment to growing autonomous vehicle services creates new opportunities for greater freedom and inclusion, and we are excited about the positive impact this will have on the epilepsy community.”

  • Waymo vehicle outside of San Jose Mineta International Airport

Waymo has received authorization to offer fully autonomous rides at San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) terminals. We’ll begin fully autonomous testing this fall and intend to offer a commercial service to riders later this year. SJC will be the second international airport where we operate fully autonomously – and the first in California – building on the success of our service at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

“It’s the perfect time for Waymo’s autonomous vehicles to begin to roll into San José, the Capital of Silicon Valley,” San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “For decades, our region has shaped the future — and Waymo embodies our region’s spirit of innovation. With San José at the epicenter of the biggest sporting events of 2026, Waymo is an ideal mode of transportation that will help visitors move around the area smoothly and safely.”

“We look forward to offering fully autonomous rides at San José Mineta International Airport terminals in the future,” said Annabel Chang, Head of U.S. State and Local Public Policy, Waymo. “Waymo was born in Silicon Valley, and our testing and eventual commercial deployment at the airport will help us offer a valuable service to travelers in San Jose and more of the Bay Area, as we help keep innovation on the move.”

  • A plane flying over a Waymo vehicle.

All systems go at SFO! Waymo has received our pilot permit allowing for commercial operations at San Francisco International Airport.

We’ll partner with SFO to prepare our operations at the airport in phases, beginning with employee testing soon ahead of welcoming Bay Area riders. Pickups and dropoffs will initially start at SFO’s Kiss & Fly area – a short AirTrain ride from the terminals – with the intention to explore other locations at the airport in the future.

This is a major milestone that strengthens Waymo’s impact on the region and offers residents and visitors an innovative way to travel. With years of experience serving riders at Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) and operations beginning soon at San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC), we’re accelerating our efforts to serve more airports in more cities as we scale.

“Across San Francisco, we are expanding safe, reliable, and modern transportation options—supporting our city’s economic comeback, boosting our tourism industry, and connecting residents and visitors to everything our city has to offer,” said Mayor Lurie. “We announced in March that we wanted visitors to be able to ride in a Waymo as soon as they arrived in San Francisco, and today, we are taking another important step to get there.”

“Bringing the Waymo experience to San Francisco International Airport is about more than just a ride—it’s about providing a safe, reliable, magical way for Bay Area residents and global visitors to connect with the places and people that matter most,” said Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO, Waymo. “We’re grateful for the partnership with SFO and the vision of Mayor Lurie in making this a reality.”

  • Waymo and YouTube Music logos

We’re pleased to bring yet another option to our riders to personalize their playlists while taking a ride — YouTube Music!

Riders with YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium accounts can play their favorite music and podcasts directly from the car, ad-free. Linking your accounts is quick and easy from the Waymo app’s account settings or by scanning the QR code from the in-car screen. To get the party started, we’ll provide eligible Waymo riders a 3-month free trial of YouTube Premium.

We celebrated this announcement by collaborating with pop artist Julia Michaels, who performed her latest hit, “No Heartbreak’s Killed Me Yet,” from the backseat of a Waymo vehicle. After her ride, she shared her thoughts on the experience: “I love Waymo cause it’s nonjudgmental. I feel safe to sing as silly as I want with YouTube Music and be as free as I want. It’s an incredible experience.”

YouTube Music joins Spotify and iHeart as another excellent music choice for our riders, as we continue to elevate the rider experience and deliver more personalization through the Waymo app.
