Read moreWaymo arrived in Tokyo this April and has been adapting our technology and operations for Japan’s capital as we expand to major cities across the U.S. and globally. As we continue our work in Japan, we were delighted to welcome Japan’s Transport Minister Nakano and other officials to experience a fully autonomous ride in San Francisco and tour our operations center.
“I am impressed by how smoothly Waymo’s technology navigated San Francisco’s streets, pedestrians, and cyclists. I look forward to seeing Waymo bring this same capability and service to Tokyo, as the company takes a thoughtful and deliberate approach to adapting to our city’s unique streets.” – Minister Hiromasa Nakano, head of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism
“We are deeply honored by Minister Nakano and his team’s visit. Hosting them in San Francisco was an incredible opportunity to share what we’ve learned from years of operating this technology across over ten million trips in the U.S. We’re excited to bring our same safe, sustainable, and convenient service to the people of Japan, complementing their world-renowned transport system as we continue our work with Nihon Kotsu and GO.” - Nicole Gavel, Head of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Waymo

Read moreWe’re pleased to bring yet another option to our riders to personalize their playlists while taking a ride — YouTube Music!
Riders with YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium accounts can play their favorite music and podcasts directly from the car, ad-free. Linking your accounts is quick and easy from the Waymo app’s account settings or by scanning the QR code from the in-car screen. To get the party started, we’ll provide eligible Waymo riders a 3-month free trial of YouTube Premium.
We celebrated this announcement by collaborating with pop artist Julia Michaels, who performed her latest hit, “No Heartbreak’s Killed Me Yet,” from the backseat of a Waymo vehicle. After her ride, she shared her thoughts on the experience: “I love Waymo cause it’s nonjudgmental. I feel safe to sing as silly as I want with YouTube Music and be as free as I want. It’s an incredible experience.”
YouTube Music joins Spotify and iHeart as another excellent music choice for our riders, as we continue to elevate the rider experience and deliver more personalization through the Waymo app.

Read moreAll systems go at SFO! Waymo has received our pilot permit allowing for commercial operations at San Francisco International Airport.
We’ll partner with SFO to prepare our operations at the airport in phases, beginning with employee testing soon ahead of welcoming Bay Area riders. Pickups and dropoffs will initially start at SFO’s Kiss & Fly area – a short AirTrain ride from the terminals – with the intention to explore other locations at the airport in the future.
This is a major milestone that strengthens Waymo’s impact on the region and offers residents and visitors an innovative way to travel. With years of experience serving riders at Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) and operations beginning soon at San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC), we’re accelerating our efforts to serve more airports in more cities as we scale.
“Across San Francisco, we are expanding safe, reliable, and modern transportation options—supporting our city’s economic comeback, boosting our tourism industry, and connecting residents and visitors to everything our city has to offer,” said Mayor Lurie. “We announced in March that we wanted visitors to be able to ride in a Waymo as soon as they arrived in San Francisco, and today, we are taking another important step to get there.”
“Bringing the Waymo experience to San Francisco International Airport is about more than just a ride—it’s about providing a safe, reliable, magical way for Bay Area residents and global visitors to connect with the places and people that matter most,” said Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO, Waymo. “We’re grateful for the partnership with SFO and the vision of Mayor Lurie in making this a reality.”

Read moreWaymo has received authorization to offer fully autonomous rides at San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) terminals. We’ll begin fully autonomous testing this fall and intend to offer a commercial service to riders later this year. SJC will be the second international airport where we operate fully autonomously – and the first in California – building on the success of our service at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
“It’s the perfect time for Waymo’s autonomous vehicles to begin to roll into San José, the Capital of Silicon Valley,” San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “For decades, our region has shaped the future — and Waymo embodies our region’s spirit of innovation. With San José at the epicenter of the biggest sporting events of 2026, Waymo is an ideal mode of transportation that will help visitors move around the area smoothly and safely.”
“We look forward to offering fully autonomous rides at San José Mineta International Airport terminals in the future,” said Annabel Chang, Head of U.S. State and Local Public Policy, Waymo. “Waymo was born in Silicon Valley, and our testing and eventual commercial deployment at the airport will help us offer a valuable service to travelers in San Jose and more of the Bay Area, as we help keep innovation on the move.”

Read moreWe’re elevating the Waymo experience in the Mile High City as we arrive in Denver this fall to lay the groundwork for a fully autonomous service in the future.
We’ll arrive with a mixed fleet of Jaguar I-PACE with the 5th-generation Waymo Driver and Zeekr RT vehicles equipped with our 6th-generation Waymo Driver. Our next-generation system is informed by years of winter weather experience across Michigan, upstate New York, and the Sierra Nevada and engineered to autonomously sustain operations in harsher climates.
As we put down roots in the city, we’re coordinating closely with city and state officials and look forward to building strong partnerships with the communities that make Denver a beloved home and world-class destination to millions.
“I’m excited to help Coloradans get where we want to go faster, safer, with additional transportation options.” said Colorado Governor Polis. “Our state is driven by innovation, and the arrival of Waymo’s autonomous vehicle technology in Denver is a step forward. We welcome Waymo to Colorado.”
“Whether they need a ride to work, school, the farmer’s market, or they’re heading out for a night on the town, Waymo is a great way for Denverites to get where they’re going safely,” said Mayor Mike Johnston. “Waymo’s innovative, climate-friendly technology will not only make our streets safer but cleaner, and I can’t wait for my first ride.”

Read moreWe’re heading North – the Pacific Northwest to be exact! We’re excited to open our doors to the broader Seattle metropolitan area and offer a new way to get around. Washington State, and many of its municipalities, have been early leaders in autonomous vehicle (AV) testing as they develop their framework for AV operations.
We’ve spent years getting to know the area —from communities around the Lake to its notoriously wet weather. This experience has been vital in helping us serve riders rain or shine in cities across the country. We’re eager to bring that same safe, accessible, and sustainable service to you.
As we work to create a path forward for autonomous operations, we’re deepening our relationships with the local community.
“The Epilepsy Foundation Washington applauds Waymo’s expansion to Seattle. Safe, reliable transportation is one of the greatest challenges for people with epilepsy,” said Kevin Koppes, Executive Director, Epilepsy Foundation Washington. “For many, the inability to drive limits independence, access to employment, and participation in other activities. Waymo’s commitment to growing autonomous vehicle services creates new opportunities for greater freedom and inclusion, and we are excited about the positive impact this will have on the epilepsy community.”
