mga faq

    • When will operations in Singapore start?

We intend to begin initial driving operations next year.

We will start by operating the vehicles manually, beginning with mapping and validation driving. As we’ve done in other cities, we’ll take a phased approach as we scale. After a period of manual driving, we’ll begin autonomous driving with trained, local autonomous specialists behind the wheel, before moving to fully autonomous operations.

We will work closely with the Ministry of Transport, the Land Transport Authority, and other local authorities to secure necessary approvals, and keep the public up to date as our operations progress.

    • Kailan at saan kayo bibiyahe?

We will be driving day and night and intend to initially manually drive and map all regions of Singapore, to collect the necessary data for Waymo to seek Land Transport Authority approval for our autonomous driving system in 2027

When we begin operations, we will still be in preparation mode with autonomous specialists behind the wheel who will be manually driving. We will let the public know when we begin autonomous operations with autonomous vehicle specialists, and later fully autonomous operations.

Our operations typically run 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, to ensure our technology can safely handle all road conditions. Data from testing will be processed pursuant to the requirements of Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act and in line with the Waymo Services Privacy Policy. You can read more about our global commitment to privacy in autonomous mobility here.

    • Kailan ako makakasakay?

We intend to open our service in 2028. The best way to stay informed about our Singapore expansion and service launch is to sign up to follow our milestones and sign up for updates on when our service opens.

We will notify you as soon as our commercial service becomes available in your area.

    • Why choose Singapore?

Singapore has long stood at the forefront of global innovation and we believe the city and Waymo’s focus on innovation and safety are very complimentary. Singapore has built one of the world’s most advanced multimodal transit systems as well as a commitment to sustainability. The benefits that autonomous shared mobility can provide in Singapore are described in the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 and on the Land Transport Authority's website.

    • What local stakeholders are you working with?

We are working closely with all the relevant government agencies to ensure full alignment with Singapore’s land transport goals and safety regulation.

    • How do you know the technology is ready for Singapore?

We will take the same methodical approach to testing and deploying the Waymo Driver in Singapore that we’ve taken in the other cities where we operate.

We are confident that we will be able to meet Singapore’s high AV regulatory standards based on the significant real-world experience we have to-date and look forward to seeking the corresponding government approvals for future phases.

The data shows Waymo is making roads safer in the communities in which we operate fully autonomously, reducing the number of injury-causing collisions on the roads compared to human benchmarks.

The Waymo Driver has fully autonomously driven hundreds of millions of kilometres across major cities in the U.S., and is already gathering autonomous driving experience in large global cities like London and Tokyo. We expect this experience to translate well to Singapore, and will take a rigorous approach to safely validating that experience every step of the way.

    • Which vehicles will you use?

We will start with our all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles equipped with our fifth generation Waymo Driver, and plan to include future vehicle platforms as the fleet expands.

    • Paano tinitiyak ng Waymo ang mga ligtas na interaction sa mga nagbibisikleta at naglalakad sa mga urban na environment?

Waymo vehicles are equipped with a sophisticated suite of sensors—including cameras, lidar, and radar—that build a detailed, 360-degree understanding of their surroundings and are able to see and distinguish between vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians. Our software predicts the behavior of these road users and maneuvers our vehicles to interact safely and respectfully, giving them ample space. We also utilise visual and audio cues to clearly communicate the Waymo Driver’s intentions to people outside the vehicle, fostering predictable and safe interactions in busy urban settings with high numbers of cyclists and pedestrians. Additionally, we’ve created Safe Exit features to ensure our riders remain respectful of approaching cyclists upon their arrival at their destination.
