¿Qué es Waymo?
Waymo stands for a new way forward in mobility. We're a self-driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around. We’re determined to improve transportation for people around the world, building on technology developed in Google’s labs since 2009.
Our goal is to transform mobility by making it safe and easy for people and things to move around. We’re committed to developing fully self-driving vehicles because we believe that this is safer and better for everyone.

Annually, over 1.35 million people die on our roadways. In the US alone, traffic collisions kill over 35,000 people a year. In the U.S., 94% of crashes involve human error or choice, and this is one place where we believe we really can bring technology to bear. Fully self-driving cars could also help people who can't drive—whether elderly, blind, or disabled—to get around and do the things they love.

We’ve also begun conducting a technical exploration into how our technology can integrate into trucks. Every year truck crashes cause 4,000 deaths and a further 110,000 people are injured in commercial truck-related crashes annually in the U.S.
¿Qué tipo de vehículos conduces?
Our fleet of self-driving vehicles has included modified Toyota Priuses, Lexus SUVs, a custom-built prototype vehicle (nicknamed "Firefly"), and now fully self-driving Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans are our first vehicles built on a mass-production platform with a fully-integrated hardware suite, newly designed by Waymo for the purpose of full autonomy.

Most recently, we partnered with Jaguar to create the world's first premium electric self-driving vehicle: the Jaguar I-PACE. We’ll start testing these vehicles this year and will add up to 20,000 I-PACEs to Waymo’s fleet in the coming years. That’s enough cars to drive about a million trips in a typical day.

We've also begun conducting a technical exploration into how our technology can integrate into Class 8 trucks.
¿Waymo funciona en camiones autónomos?
Yes. Waymo is currently testing its self-driving technology on Class 8 trucks. We've conducted road tests of Waymo’s trucks in California, Atlanta, and Arizona. Learn more.
¿Cuál es el futuro de Waymo?
We’ve been refining our self-driving technology since 2009 and the next step along the journey is to make our self-driving cars available to the public. We are doing this with the introduction of our commercial service, Waymo One.

With Waymo in the driver's seat, we can also reimagine many different forms of transportation, from ride-hailing and logistics, to public transport and personal vehicles. We’ve been exploring each of these areas, with a focus on shared mobility.
We can't accommodate most appearance requests due to our busy development and testing schedules. For special requests, please use our contact form. Please note that we aren't able to respond to all inquiries.

We’ve also created an immersive 360 video experience that allows anyone to see what it’s like to ride in a fully self-driving car. Watch the video.
Good luck with your project! Everything we have to share is available on this website and on our blog, so they're the best places to look for details on Waymo. We can't provide any other information at the moment.

Our Technology

With self-driving technology, the car does all the work of driving and the person in the vehicle is never expected to take control at any time. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) calls this a fully automated vehicle. This is the type of technology we're working on.

Driver assist technology can include things like adaptive cruise control or automated parking. With some driver assistance systems, there may be moments when the car is capable of self-driving, but it may also exit this mode in certain situations, with the driver expected to take over. This type of technology falls between function-specific automation and limited self-driving automation by NHTSA’s classification.
¿Cómo funciona la tecnología?
Our fully self-driving technology will handle all the driving so you can go from door to door without taking the wheel. This will deliver the biggest impact on improving road safety and mobility for everyone.

Our cars use sensors and software to detect other roadway users, such as motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians, as well as objects like vehicles and road work, from up to three football fields away in all directions. Every day, our cars drive safely through many complex scenarios on real city streets. We can adjust to unexpected changes like closed lanes or respond to complex cues at a railroad crossing. We’ve also taught our vehicles to drive defensively, so they try to stay out of blind spots and nudge away from large vehicles. Learn more.
¿Cómo prueban sus vehículos?
When it comes to driving, experience is the best teacher. Waymo’s self-driving technology has driven more than 10 million miles -- the equivalent of 700+ years of human driving experience. Waymo has tested in more than 25 cities, on challenging city streets, in snow, rain, and extreme weather conditions. At our private test track in California, we’ve run more than 20,000 individual scenario tests, practicing rare and unusual cases and collision avoidance testing. We’ve multiplied all this real-world experience in simulation, where our software drives more than 10 million miles every day in our virtual world.
¿Waymo es seguro?
Safety is our number one goal. Making driving safer for everyone is the main reason Waymo was born as the Google self-driving car project in 2009. Since then, we've self-driven more than 10 million miles, largely on complex city streets, and tested our software through 7 billion miles of simulated driving. Riding With Waymo One

What is Waymo One?
Waymo One is our commercial self-driving service that allows members of the public to travel from place to place in one of Waymo's self-driving cars.

We’ll start by giving riders access to our app which they can use to call our self-driving vehicles 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can use it to get around several cities in the Metro Phoenix area. Whether it's for a fun night out or just to get a break from driving, our riders get the same clean vehicles every time and a driver with over 10 million miles of experience on public roads.

Over time, we hope to make Waymo One available to more members of the public as we add more vehicles and drive in more places.
How can I ride with Waymo One?
We’re starting by offering Waymo One to hundreds of early riders who have already been using our technology in Phoenix, AZ. Over time we hope to make Waymo One available to more members of the public as we add more vehicles and drive in more places. To express your interest in Waymo One, visit our homepage.

You can also apply to the early rider program, our confidential research and development program. Early riders test new features while giving us valuable feedback on their experiences. Sign up here here.
¿Cuáles son los horarios de atención?
Waymo's service operates around the clock 24/7. You can travel anywhere in our territory day and night.
For now, Waymo-trained drivers are in the cars to make sure our riders have a great experience and serve as a backup only. They are there to make sure this brand new traveling experience is as comfortable and convenient as possible when we first start out with Waymo One.
