Starting today, anyone in San Antonio, San Diego, and Tampa can download the Waymo app and hail a fully autonomous ride, including the San Antonio International Airport. We’ve welcomed hundreds of thousands of riders in these cities since opening our service earlier in the year, whether heading to the beach, a hockey game, the Riverwalk or just a grocery run.

While these cities have different personalities, they have similar needs. They have embraced Waymo as an important resource for expanding accessible and reliable transportation options across the region. 

Speaking of options, Waymo is the newest way for people catch a flight in the Alamo City. Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports for the City of San Antonio Aviation, said: “San Antonio International Airport is committed to building the airport of the future and embracing cutting-edge technology and innovation. Waymo offering fully autonomous rides at the airport marks a significant milestone for Waymo, our city and travelers. Whether visitors are heading downtown or locals are catching an early-morning flight, they now have a new option to get there.”

In San Diego, Bob Kelly, Founder CEO of the San Diego Seniors Community Foundation, said Waymo is helping older riders do more: “Transportation is the lifeline of independence for older adults. Self-driving technology like Waymo’s isn’t just about innovation — it’s about inclusion. San Diego should be at the forefront of bringing safe, reliable, and accessible mobility options to seniors who deserve to stay active and connected.” 

Over in Florida, Scott Young, Board Chair for Lighthouse for the Blind & Low Vision, said Waymo improves how his community can access more of Tampa. “For our clients, transportation is the number one barrier for their independence. A lot of them lose their sight at some point in their life or their vision decreases significantly, and they can't drive anymore. They need to rely on family members or friends or others to get you places. With Waymo, they get their independence back.”

We’re adding a new version of the Ojai to our growing fleet. It debuts with a silver exterior finish, and curated color and trim updates to the interior. 

Riders will experience soft leatherette seating, matching seatbelts, carpeted flooring, and high-contrast trim accents. Beyond aesthetics, we’ve added functional amenities, including a wireless phone charger, new seats and rear armrests, 

The silver Ojai is ramping up production at our Mesa, AZ driver integration plant and hitting the road for testing now. In the coming weeks, it will begin serving rides in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas before scaling to many more cities over time.

Across Waymo’s 270 million autonomous miles, the data is unequivocal: at least 841 people* avoided injuries they otherwise would have sustained in a traffic crash. Over 300 human lifetimes of driving, the Waymo Driver continues to meaningfully improve road safety.

Our latest analysis of the Waymo Driver’s safety performance now covers over 270 million miles of fully autonomous operations through the end of June 2026 — the distance equivalent of driving the length of Route 66 over 110,000 times. This safety data includes analysis of five of our major metropolitan service areas: Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco.

Across these cities, the Waymo Driver continues to outperform human benchmarks. Regardless of fault, it was involved in 841 fewer injury-causing crashes — an 82% reduction compared to human drivers. When it comes to more severe collisions, the impact is even more pronounced: the Waymo Driver was involved in 95% fewer (20x fewer) serious injury or worse crashes than humans.

The safety impact extends directly to where road users are most exposed. Whether it's riding in a bike lane alongside the vehicle, stepping into a crosswalk at dusk, or navigating dense traffic on a motorcycle, the Waymo Driver significantly reduces risk — cutting injury-causing crashes involving pedestrians by 93%, cyclists by 86%, and motorcyclists by 82%.

As our operations scale, so does the positive safety impact the Waymo Driver has on roads, our riders, the communities we serve, and the healthcare ecosystems that serve these communities.

Nashville families, your transportation routine just got a lot easier. Starting today, teens ages 13-17 can hail fully autonomous Waymo rides across 50 square miles of Nashville when linked to a parent or guardian's account. 

Following a successful launch in Phoenix, Waymo teen accounts continue to provide much-desired independence for teens—giving them the freedom to get to school, sports, and extracurriculars, and giving busy parents their time back. Teen accounts also offer parents peace of mind with specially-trained Rider Support agents, trip status sharing, and automatic ride receipts.

We recently offered early access to select teens in Nashville to hear directly from locals how Waymo rides may simplify their busy lives. Nashville teen, Asher Huffman, shared, “I really enjoyed being able to hail a ride home from a concert without having to bother my parents, and I even got to show Waymo off to my friend. Getting to play my music as loud as I want, with no one else in the car, was also awesome. Kind of like I was in my own little bubble.”

Asher’s mom, Amy Huffman, agreed and shared, “It was a huge help to our family. Whether my son was staying late at school or going to a concert downtown, I didn’t have to worry about how he was going to get home or rearrange my own plans to pick him up. It gave him more independence and took a real burden off of us as parents.”

Access to safe transportation doesn’t just lighten the parental load, it can also unlock opportunity. We partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley and the Legacy Institute to study the impact that access to reliable Waymo rides had on their summer internship experience. Access to Waymo for commuting cut reported stress in half from 86% down to 43%.

Since opening our service in February, we’ve welcomed more than 100,000 riders in Houston from our interest list to experience the safety, reliability, and magic of Waymo, and now we’re offering our service to everyone.

Las Vegas is a city built on unforgettable experiences, and starting this season, getting to and from the stadium will be one of them. Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Waymo is the Official Autonomous Ride-Hailing Partner of the Las Vegas Raiders and Allegiant Stadium, marking the first-ever partnership between a professional football team and an autonomous vehicle company.
